The Forgotten
Colours of Dreams
Johnny Clyde really is someone to watch out for. He has a vision and can deliver it in the most unique and stunning fashion. He directed, composed and edited this film. And the fact that each element is so incredibly strong with none of them being a weak point is a triumph. I would love to see more by this guy, as he could be the face of a new wave of cinema.

"There's a magical pull to the movie. It skirts the line between narrative and experimental just enough to engross on both those levels. That's not an easy balance, yet Clyde does it without breaking a sweat. It's seriously pure magic. The visuals, the sounds, the score, the aspect ratio, the VHS quality, the costuming, the dialogue, the posture of the performances. It's all incredibly confident; meticulous, even. This is one of the best films of the year."

The Forgotten Colours of Dreams is a film that sort of came out of nowhere, yet is already setting an undeniable standard for quality and creativity in contemporary experimental filmmaking. It's unquestionably my favorite 2018 film so far, and I have a difficult time imagining another film taking that spot in the future.
